English tongue

From The Anglish Moot

English is a West Germanic tongue which was born in England, but is now the mother tongue for about 300-400 thousand thousand folk in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Ireland, the United States of America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and throughout the world.

English is the daughter tongue of Old English, but with a great deal of words coming from French, Old Norse, Latin, and Greek. Its nearest kintongue is Frisian, a tongue which is now spoken in the north of the Netherlands.
