Head 1

1. These are the names of the children of Israel who came to Egypt with Jacob; [each] man and his household came.
2. Ruben, Simon, Levi, and Judah;
3. Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin;
4. Dan and Napthali; Gad and Asher.
5. All of Jacob's offspring were seventy souls - Joseph having been in Egypt.
6. Then Joseph, all his brothers, and all that bearing died.
7. And the children of Israel teemed and swarmed. They grew and waxed mighty great, and the land was filled with them.
8. Now there arose over Egypt a new king who did not know Joseph.
9. And he said to his folk: "Look, the folk of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we.
10. Come, let us wise up to them, lest they grow and, should war break out on us, they also gather with our foes, wage war against us, and then leave the land.
11. So they set over them geld lords to strike them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh stocktowns, Pithom and Raamses.
12. But the more they struck them, the more they grew and overflowed, and they came to loathe the children of Israel.
13. Egypt ruthlessly worked the children of Israel.
14. And they made their lives bitter with hard work, with clay and brick, and with all kinds of field work. All the work which they worked was ruthless.
15. The king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, the name of one of which was Shiphrah, and of the other Puah.
16. And he said, "When you birth the Hebrew women, look at the birthstool. If it is a boy, you shall kill him; if a girl, she shall live."
17. But the midwives feared God, and they did not do that which the king of Egypt had told to them. They let the boys live.
18. So the king of Egypt called the midwives and said to them, "Why have you done this thing, letting the boys live?"
19. The midwives said to Pharaoh, "For the Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women; they are lively. Before the midwife comes to them, they have given birth."
20. And God did well for the midwives. The folk grew and waxed great.
21. And it was since the midwives feared God, he made for them households.
22. Then Pharaoh bade all his folk saying, "Every boy that is born you shall cast into the water-run, but every girl you shall let live."

Head 2

1 And a man of the house of Levi went and wed a daughter of Levi.

2 So the woman knit and bore a son. And when she saw that he was an healthy child, she hid him three months long.

3 But when she could no longer hide him, she took a cawl of bulrushes for him, dabbed it with asphalt and pitch, laid the child in it, and put it in the reeds by the stream's bank.

4 And his sister stood afar off, to wit what would come of it.

5 Then the daughter of Pharaoh came down to the stream to bathe. And her maidens walked along the streamside; and when she saw the cawl among the reeds, she sent her maid to get it.

6 And when she opened it, she saw the child, and behold, the baby wept. So she had wem for him, and said, "This is one of the Hebrews' children."

7Then his sister said to Pharaoh's daughter, "Shall I go and call a nurse for you from the Hebrew women, so she can nurse the child for you?"

8 And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, "Go." So the maiden ran and called the child's mother.

9 Then Pharaoh's daughter said to her, "Take this child away and nurse him for me, and I will pay you back." So the woman took the child and nursed him.

10 And when the child was grown, she brought him to Pharaoh's daughter, and he was made her son. So she called him Moses, saying, "Since I took him out of the water."

11 Now it happened in those days, when Moses had gotten big, that he went out to his brethren and looked at their burdens. And he saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his brethren.

12 So he looked around, and when he saw no one by, he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand.

13 And he went out another day, and behold, two Hebrew men were fighting, and he said to the one who did the wrong, "Why are you striking your neighbor?"

14 Then he answered, "Who made you a ruler and a deemer over us? Do you plan to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?" Then Moses feared and said, "Surely the thing is known! "

15 When Pharaoh heard of it, he went about to kill Moses. But he fled from Pharaoh and dwelt in the land of Midian; and he sat down by a wellside.

16 The priest of Midian had seven daughters, who came and drew water, and they filled the troughs to water their father's sheep.

17 Then the shepherds came and drove them away; but Moses stood up and helped them, and watered their sheep.

18 When they came to Reuel their father, he said, "How did it happen that you have come so soon today?"

19 And they answered, "An Egyptian that freed us from the shepherds, and he also drew water for us and watered the sheep."

20 So he said to his daughters, "And where is he? Why have you have left the man? Go call him, so he can eat bread."

21 Then Moses was happy to live with the man, and he gave Zipporah his daughter to Moses.

22 And she bore a son. He called his name Gershom, for he said, "I have been an outlander in an outland." (And she bore yet another son, whom he called Eliezer saying, "The God of my father is my helper, and has rid me out of the hands of Pharaoh.")

23 Now it happened over time that the king of Egypt died. Then the children of Israel groaned from the bondage, and they clept out; and their clepe came up to God from the bondage.

24 And God heard their griping, and God kept in mind His oath with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

25 And God looked upon the children of Israel, and God knew them.

Head 3

1 Now Moses was tending the sheep of Jethro his father-in-law, priest of Midian. And he drove the flock to the backside of the wasteland, and came to Horeb, the hill of God.

2 And the Boder of YHWH showed up to him in a flame of fire out of a bush. So he beheld and the bush was burning with fire, but was not eaten.

3 Then Moses said, "I'm going to go on and see this great sight, how that the bush doesn't burn."

4 So when the YHWH saw that he came to look, He called to him out of the bush and said, "Moses, Moses! " And he answered, "Here I am."

5 Then He said, "Don't come any closer. Take your sandals off your feet, for the stead where you stand is holy ground."

6 And He said, "I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob." And Moses hid his foreside, for he was afraid to look upon God.

7 And YHWH said: "I have surely seen the costing of My folk who are in Egypt, and have heard their clepe from their tasklords, for I know their sorrow.

8 So I have come down to free them out of the hands of the Egypters, and to bring them out of that land to a good and large land, to a land that flows with milk and honey, to the realm of the Canaaners and the Hittlanders and the Amorlanders and the Perizzers, and the Hivlanders and the Jebusers.

9 Now therefore, behold, the gripe of the children of Israel has come to Me, and I have also seen the downtrodding with which the Egypters trod down on them.

10 But come, and I will send you to Pharaoh so you can bring My folk, the children of Israel, out of Egypt."

11 But Moses said to God, "Who am I to go to Pharaoh, and to bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?"

12 So He said, "I will be with you. And this shall be a token to you that I have sent you: After you have brought the folk out of Egypt, you shall thane God on this hill."

13 Then Moses said to God, "When I come to the children of Israel and say to them, "The God of your fathers has sent me to you,' and they say to me, "What is His name?' What answer should I them?"

14 Then God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM." And He said, "You shall say this to the children of Israel, "I AM sent me to you.'"

15 And God spoke further to Moses, "Thus you shall say to the children of Israel: "YHWH God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My name forever, and this is how I want all bekennings to keep Me in mind.

16 So go and gather the elders of Israel together, and say to them, "YHWH God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, showed up to me, saying, "I have seen you what is done to you in Egypt;

17 and I have said it, that, "I will bring you out of the costing of Egypt to the land of the Canaaners and the Hittlanders and the Amorlanders and the Perizzers, and the Hivlanders and the Jebusers, to a land that flows with milk and honey."'

18 If they heed your call, then go, both you and the elders of Israel, to the king of Egypt; and you shall say to him, "YHWH God of the Hebrews has met with us; so let us go three days' faring into the wilderness, so we can bloot to YHWH our God.'

19 Notwithstanding I am sure that the king of Egypt will not let you go, unless it's by a mighty hand.

20 Yes, and I will therefore stretch out My hand and strike Egypt with all My wonders which I will do in it; and after that he will let you go.

21 And I will get this folk kindness in the sight of the Egypters, so that when you go, you shall not go empty-handed.

22 But every woman shall ask of her neighbor who dwells near her house, bits of silver, bits of gold, and clothing; and you shall put them on your sons and on your daughters, and shall rob the Egypters."

Head 4

1 Moses answered and said, "But what if they will not believe me or listen to my call; what if they say, "YHWH has not shown up to you.'"

2 So YHWH said to him, "What is that in your hand?" He said, "A rod."

3 And He said, "Throw it on the ground." So he threw it on the ground, and it werthed an adder; and Moses ran away from it.

4 Then YHWH said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand and take it by the tail" (and he stretched out his hand and caught it, and it became a rod again in his hand),

5 "so that they believe that YHWH God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has shown up to you."

6 Furthermore, YHWH said to him, "Now thrust your hand in your bosom." And he thrust his hand in his bosom, and he took it out; and behold, his hand was wilted, like snow.

7 And He said, "Put your hand in your bosom again." So he put his hand in his bosom again, and drew it out of his bosom, and behold, it was brought back like the rest of his flesh.

8 "If they do not believe you, nor heed the call of the first token, yet they will believe the call of the next token.

9 But if they do not believe the two tokens, or listen to your call, then take water from the stream and pour it on the dry land. The water which you take out of the stream will werthe blood on the dry land."

10 Then Moses said to YHWH, "O my Lord, I am not smooth, no, not in times fared and namely since You have spoken to Your thaner; but I am slow mouthed and slow tunged."

11 So YHWH said to him, "Who has made man's mouth? Or who has made the dumb, or the deaf, the seeing, or the blind? Have not I, YHWH?

12 Go therefore and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall say."

13 But he said, "O my Lord, send, I bid You, the hand of whomever else You wish."

14 And YHWH was angry with Moses, and said: "I know Aaron your brother, the Levite; he can speak well. And moreover look, he is also coming out to meet you. When he sees you, he will be glad inside.

15 Now you shall speak to him and put the words in his mouth. And I will be with your mouth and with his mouth, and I will teach you what you shall do.

16 So he shall be your spokesman to the folk. And he shall be your mouth, and you shall be his God.

17 And take this rod in your hand, with which you shall do the wonders."

18 So Moses left and went back to Jethro his father-in-law, and said to him, "Let me go, I bid you, and go back to my brethren who are in Egypt, so I can see whether they are still alive." And Jethrom said to Moses, "Go in frith."

19 And YHWH said to Moses in Midian, "Go back to Egypt; for those who went about to kill you are dead."

20 Then Moses took his wife and his sons and set them on an ass, and he went back to Egypt and took the rod of God in his hand.

21 And YHWH said to Moses, "When you have come into Egypt, see that you do all the wonders before Pharaoh which I have put in your hand. But I will harden his heart, so that he will not let the folk go.

22 And tell Pharaoh, "Thus says YHWH: "Israel is My firstborn son.

23 And so I say to you, "Let My son go so he can thane Me. But if you will not let him go, indeed I will kill your firstborn son."'"

24 And it happened on the way, at the inn, that YHWH met him and would have killed him.

25 Then Zipporah took a stone and umsnit her son and fell at Moses' feet, and said, "A bloody husband you are to me! "

26 And He let him go. She said, "a bloody husband" from the circumcision.

27 Then YHWH said to Aaron, "Go meet Moses in the wilderness." So he went and met him on the hill of God, and kissed him.

28 And Moses told Aaron all the words of YHWH Who had sent him, and all the tokens which He had bebid him.

29 So Moses and Aaron went and gathered all the elders of the children of Israel.

30 And Aaron told all the words that YHWH had spoken to Moses. Then he did the wonders in the sight of the folk.

31 And the folk believed; and when they heard that YHWH had come to the children of Israel and that He had looked on their costing, they bowed themselves and worshiped.

Head 5

1 Then Moses and Aaron went in and told Pharaoh, "Thus says YHWH God of Israel: "Let My leedship go, so they can keep holy day to Me in the wilderness.'"

2 And Pharaoh answered, "What fellow is YHWH, that I should listen to His call to let Israel go? I do not know YHWH, nor will I let Israel go."

3 So they said, "The God of the Hebrews has met with us. Let us go, we bid you, three days' fare into the wasteland so we can bloot to YHWH our God, or He will strike us with costing or with sword."

4 Then said the king of Egypt to them, "Moses and Aaron, why do you take the folk from their work? Get back to your work."

5 And Pharaoh said furthermore, "Look, there is a lot of folks in the land, and you make them play and rest from their workstand!"

6 So the same day Pharaoh bebade the tasklords of the folks and their ambighters, saying,

7 "See that you give the folks no more straw to make brick as you did in times gone by. Let them go and gather straw themselves.

8 And you shall lay on them the tally of bricks which they made in times gone by. You shall not lessen it. For they are idle; therefore whine, saying, "Let us go and bloot to our God.'

9 They must have more work laid on the men, that they may swink in it, and let them not wend themselves to false words."

10 And the tasklords of the folk and their ambighters went out and spoke to the folks, saying, "Thus says Pharaoh: "I will give you no more straw.

11 but get yourselves and gather straw where y'all can find it; yet none of your work will be lessened.'"

12 So the folks spread abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble instead of straw.

13 And the tasklords hurried them, saying, "Fulfill your work day by day, as when straw was given to you."

14 Also the ambighters of the children of Israel, whom Pharaoh's tasklord's had set over them, were beaten and were asked, "Why have y'all not fulfilled your task in making brick both yesterday and today, as in times fared?"

15 Then the ambighters of the children of Israel went and whined to Pharaoh, saying, "Why are you dealing thus with your thaners?

16 There is no straw given to your thaners, and they say to us, "Make brick! ' And indeed your thaners are beaten, but the guilt is in your own folk."

17 But he answered, "Idle are y'all! Idle! Therefore you say, "Let's go and bloot to YHWH.'

18 Therefore go and work; for there will be no straw given to you, yet see that y'all yield the whole tale of bricks."

19 When the ambighters of the children of Israel saw that they were in a bad way after it was said, "Y'all shall not lessen any bricks from your daily making of brick."

20 Then, as they came out from Pharaoh, they met Moses and Aaron standing there to meet them.

21 And they said to them, "Let YHWH look on you and deem, since you have made us stink in the sight of Pharaoh and of his thaners, to put a sword in their hand to kill us."

22 Moses went back to YHWH and said, "Lord, why have You dealt cruelly with this folk? Why is it You have sent me?

23 For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in Your name, he has fared foul with this people; nor have You burged Your folk at all."

Head 20

1 And God said all these words:

2 I am the LORD your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of thraldom's stead.

3 You shall have no other gods but me.

4 You shall not hew a likeness of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth.

5 You shall not bow yourself before them or give them worship: for I, the LORD your God, am a grudging God who will not give his worth to another: and of them that hate me, I will wreak woe upon the bairns for the sins of their fathers unto the third and fourth after-bearings;

6 and for a thousand after-bearings I will show mildness of heart on the bairns of those who love me, and keep my bodewords,

7 You shall not take the name of the LORD your God worthlessly, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who mispeaks his name.

8 You shall bear in mind the Sabbath and keep it holy.

9 You are to till the ground on six days and do all your work:

10 But the seventh is the Sabbath day of the LORD your God and on that day you shall do no work, neither you nor your son or daughter, nor your bondsman or your dey, your cattle or the outlander who is amongst you.

11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and the sea, and everything in them, and he took his rest on the seventh day: for this ground the LORD blessed to the seventh day and hallowed it;

12 You shall give worth to your father and to your mother, so that your life may be long in the land which the LORD your God is giving you.

13 You shall do no murder.

14 You shall not break the wedlock oath.

15 You shall not steal.

16 You shall not bear false witness against your neighbour.

17 You shall not crave your neighbour's house, or his bondsmen or his deys or his ox or his ass or anything which is his.

18 And all the folk saw the thundering and the skyflames and the sound of the horn and the bergs smoking; and they kept afar, shaking with fear:

19 They said to Moses, speak with us and we will hearken, but do not let God speak with us, lest death come upon us.

20 And Moses said to the people, have no fear: for God has come to put you to ordeal so that through fearing him you may be kept from wrongdoing.

21 And the people kept afar, but Moses went near to the dark welkin, nigh unto God.

22 And the LORD said to Moses, "Say to the bairns of Israel that you have seen that the words which have come to you from heaven are of my tung.

23 "You shall not make afgods of silver and afgods of gold for yourselves.

24 "You shall make for me an hallow of earth, offering on it your burned offerings and your frith, your sheep and your oxen; and in every stead where I have hallowed my Name, and I will come to you and give you my blessing.

25 And if you make me a hallow of stone do not make it of hewed stones: for the smite of a tool will make it unclean.

26 And you shall not build steps up to my hallow for fear that a part of your body may be from there seen bare."
